Scientific Conference on the subject: Economic policies of small countries in terms of European integration

On the occasion of its 42nd anniversary, the Faculty of Economics, University of Banja Luka is organizing on 7th and 8th of February 2017 scientific conference on the subject: Economic policies of small countries in terms of European integration.

By entering the path of the European integrations sovereign states voluntarily limit and transfer the part of their sovereignty to the European Union institutions. The economic crisis in the European Union showed that the Union as a whole does not have quick and efficient responses to the crisis, especially to the specific form of the crisis in some member states. On the other hand, members of the Union, affected by intense form of crisis, are powerless to autonomously establish anti-crisis economic policy. In such circumstances, the creators of the economic policies of small countries that are on the path of integration into the European Union are faced with a number of very important issues such as:

Can small countries that are on their way to the integration into the European Union independently formulate appropriate economic policies that will ensure the management of their own development?

What is the domain of independent economic policies and are there adequate mechanisms to establish their compatibility with the general policies of the Union?

What are the economic policies needed for small countries to achieve the maximum effects of general prosperity in the European Union?

What are the economic policies needed for small countries to protect themselves from the devastating effects of the crisis and the recession in the EU or in the economically strongest countries in the Union?

How does the principle of economic freedom and openness of the EU market contribute to the release of resources in small countries and increasing the efficiency of their use?

Do small countries have benefits and what are the economic advantages of small countries in the large market of the European Union?

What sector policies are most appropriate for the economic empowerment of small countries in the European Union?

Does the integration of small countries in the European Union restrict economic cooperation of small countries with countries outside the European Union?

Participants of this meeting are expected to provide answers in their works to some of these, as well as other issues, in order to have a more complete picture of the essential characteristics of the economic system, macroeconomic and microeconomic policies that should guide small countries to be more effective in the context of the European Union.
